Belly Button Plastic Surgery

Every once in a while a patient will come in to my office asking for cosmetic surgery of the belly button (the media tries to make this out to be a fad, but I don’t really see it that way). Plastic surgeons who perform a lot of tummy tuck surgery are all fairly well trained to handle these kinds of problems, and I thought patients should know that we may be able to help you out. I’m going to present a few belly button photos below to help the reader understand what can be done, and why. Sometimes these umbilical … Continue reading

Tummy Tuck Recovery

A lot of patients who are interested in tummy tuck surgery because they don’t have the time or fear tummy tuck recovery.  They hesitate and may avoid ever improving parts of their body that the gym simply can’t work out for them, and that’s a shame.  A tummy tuck can offer a beautiful transformation for the right patient. What Does “Tummy Tuck Recovery” Mean To You? That’s a little difficult for me to offer a generic answer to this concern because I don’t necessarily know what each person considers to be “recovered” after abdominoplasty. For some folks its a matter of … Continue reading

Loose Skin After Weight Loss Surgery

Bariatric surgery helps many patients to lose a tremendous amount of weight and keep it off long term. Unfortunately, patients who have these operations are sometimes surprised at the way their bodies look after they have accomplished their comendable weight loss goals. Frankly, back in those days I had difficulty keeping up with the volume of work that they would send … Continue reading

Tattoo Removal Procedures Getting Better, But Still Not There

I came across an article claiming that tattoo removal is getting better with the use of various lasers. While this may be true, I’m concerned because many patients don’t understand how difficult it is to completely remove a tattoo. Even in what doctors call “good” outcomes, there is many times a “ghost” of the tattoo left behind when treatment is complete. The fact is that we need to use different lasers for different tattoo colors, which can prolong andcomplicate the process. Furthermore, treatments can be quite uncomfortable. For all of these reasons, I caution my friends to avoid getting inked … Continue reading

Tummy Tuck Removes C-Section Scars

I have been asked many times if a tummy tuck scar would be made above or below a C-section scar. Patients seem to think that they will end up with two separate scars from the procedures. That’s not how it works. The truth is that I routinely make my tummy tuck incisions below the C-section scars and remove any evidence of the C-section all together. That is to say, the C-section scar is completely removed, and the patient is left with only the tummy tuck scar. This may be longer than the original C-section scar, but it is closed by … Continue reading
