Male Plastic Surgery

Male Plastic Surgery

Have you ever wondered how a Male Plastic Surgery could transform your looks and give your spirits a boost, but hesitated to make an appointment? Meet Dr. Sterry

Dr. Sterry discusses men's procedures

Are you seeing an increase in the number of male patients?

“I see more men patients than I did a few years ago, for sure. I do think that there are men who want to remain competitive. There is something to be said for looking better.”

Is there a double standard when it comes to aging?

“Our society is sexist. It's OK for men to have a few wrinkles here and there, to be a little bit rugged. But there's a difference between looking rugged and looking haggard.”

Who is a typical male liposuction patient?

“I do a lot of liposuction on guys in their 30s. They're post-college, they keep partying, they're still living the same lifestyle, they're still single—except that now their metabolism is slowing down and they look down at their abs and say, ‘What happened here?’

“And then there are men who go to the gym, lift weights, run on the treadmill, get in better shape—but their flanks or ‘love handles’ don't go away. One guy was very practical about it. He said, ‘Look, I know that I can get this off. But it would take a lot of time in the gym and I'd rather be with my kids.’

“To me, liposuction is almost a no-brainer: if you suction your abs or love handles out, you'll be much happier. Some men also accumulate excess fat in the neck; liposuction can get rid of that, too.”

What about facial procedures for men?

“Men come in for Botox to relax the frown lines that can make them look tired or angry. A treatment takes only 10 minutes and lasts for four months.

“Because men's skin is thicker than women's, their faces tend to age more slowly. But guys don't like it when their neck starts to hang. A neck lift can give a man a smoother neck and a well-defined jawline.

“And if your eyelids are getting that ‘hooded’ look or you're getting puffy bags under your eyes, eyelid surgery can make you look years younger.”

Do you treat a lot of male bariatric patients?

“Yes. The most common procedures for male bariatric patients are for their tummy and their chest—just like women, ironically.

“In some patients who have a lost a massive amount of weight, their tummy hangs and the distinction between their belly, their pubis and their scrotum can get melded. You're not really sure what starts where. By doing a tummy tuck and lifting the pubis, you start to get some definition.”

Non-surgical procedures involve no downtime

  • Botox CosmeticTM relaxes the muscles that cause frown lines on your forehead and between your eyebrows. This lunchtime treatment can help you look rested, refreshed and youthful.
  • Laser hair reduction is a fast, effective solution for unwanted hair on your back. This method treats large areas of the body at a time—so it's a lot less time-consuming than other hair-removal methods.
  • Juvéderm and Restylane are hyaluronic acid facial fillers that can smooth out the nasolabial folds from the nose to the corners of the mouth. These fillers are also very effective in minimizing acne scars and filling in frown lines between the eyebrows.
  • Sculptra is an injectable filler that can add volume and fullness to your face—and the effects are proven to last for two years. It was first developed to treat patients who were taking medications that caused facial fat to disappear—a condition known as lipoatrophy, which results in a hollowing out under the cheekbones.

Rejuvenating face and body procedures for men

  • Liposuction can help you get rid of your love handles, extra abdominal fat or that double chin. Men are excellent candidates for liposuction because their skin is thicker and more elastic than women's—which leads to better results from liposuction.
  • Male breast reduction refines the contours of a man's chest. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons estimates that 40% to 60% of men are affected by gynecomastia, a medical term for excess male breast fatty tissue. Male breast reduction removes fat and/or glandular tissue—and in some cases, even excess skin—from the chest, making it flatter, firmer and better contoured.
  • Body contouring gets rid of the loose, hanging skin that's left behind after losing 50, 100 pounds or more following bariatric surgery.
    • An upper body lift trims the chest, arms and upper back
    • A lower body lift removes excess fat and skin from the abdomen, buttocks and outer thighs.
    • A panniculectomy/tummy tuck removes the apron of abdominal fat that's left after massive weight loss—and tightens the abdominal muscles.
  • Eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty gets rid of ‘hooding’ in the upper eyelids and puffy bags under the eyes. Result: A younger, more refreshed look.
  • A facelift, or rhytidectomy, is cosmetic surgery to improve evidence of facial aging, such as wrinkles or sagging skin on the face, brow and neck.
  • A NaturaliftSM is Dr. Sterry's minimally invasive facelift technique that involves minimal downtime and scarring, produces a degree of lift very much like that of a full facelift and gives you natural-looking, long-lasting results.
  • A neck lift gets rid of loose, hanging skin on the neck, giving the jawline and a much more youthful appearance.

Patient testimonials

"Dr. Sterry is amazing. He performed a lower body lift on Nov. 14, 2005 and I am thrilled with the result. He will be doing a breast/arm lift on Feb. 3. I interviewed several of the top plastic surgeons in New York City when I decided to begin my plastics and there was NO comparison when it came to Dr. Sterry."

Tummy Tuck Removes C-Section Scars

Posted on  March 14, 2011  by  drsterry

I have been asked many times if a tummy tuck scar would be made above or below a C-section scar. Patients seem to think that they will end up with two separate scars from the procedures. That's not how it works. The truth is that I routinely make my tummy tuck incisions below the C-section scars a read more »
