This is a 39-year-old woman who had struggled with her weight despite being very active and athletic. She told me that she had gained a little weight in the last year, but not so much to deserve the "fat arms" that she had developed. She also said that no matter how much exercise she did, she was unable to get rid of the fat in her arms. I have seen in my office many women who complain about the same phenomenon; fat on the arms is pretty hard to shake off.
She had thought about having an arm lift operation, but I thought that Smartlipo™ liposuction at my New York City office would be her best bet. Frankly, it is a much less invasive procedure and requires practically no arm scar, except for the small incisions near the elbow. Furthermore, I can do it under local anesthesia in my office operating room, and we don't have the added expense or need for sedation. My patients do very well with this operation while being awake.
You may notice in the after liposuction photographs that she has some scratches on the arms. This is due to her most recent Spartan race where she had to perform a barbed wire mud crawl! I promise, it had nothing to do with her surgery!
She is now able to wear a tank top in public without worrying that her arms will shake or wiggle when she walks or waves to someone.
