Pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding all take a toll on a mother’s body. Skin that was stretched might not regain its former elasticity, fat deposits can cling stubbornly to arms, hips and thighs, and breastfeeding can cause a mother’s breasts to sag or lose volume after weaning. These are things that diet and exercise may not address, leaving some women worried that they’ll never reclaim their pre-pregnancy body.
Fortunately, there is a solution. A combination of procedures that address multiple areas of a woman’s body has become popularly known as a mommy makeover. Mommy makeovers always start with modere trim reviews to get rid of the remaining fat after pregnancy before deciding to go for a surgery.

What is a Mommy Makeover?
Mommy makeovers target body issues common to mothers. They are aimed at helping mothers of all ages regain the body they used to have, boosting their self-esteem and giving them the confidence they need to live fuller lives. Common procedures included in a mommy makeover are:
- Tummy Tuck – Removes excess fat or skin and helps restore weakened or separated abdominal muscles. I have a separate blog discussing the benefits of a tummy tuck here.
- Liposuction – Removes stubborn fat deposits from thighs, hips, buttocks and/or arms.
- Breast Enhancement – Restores sagging breasts to a natural, pre-pregnancy state using one or more procedures such as breast lift, breast reduction or breast augmentation (implants).
While some patients request liposuction in place of a tummy tuck, the two procedures target different problems and bring different results. This video explains the difference between a tummy tuck and liposuction in more detail.
Patients may also elect to substitute or add other procedures, such as:
- Scar and stretch mark treatments
- Facelift
- Non-surgical options such as BOTOX and facial fillers.

Who Gets Mommy Makeovers?
I see mothers of all ages for mommy makeovers. Some are young mothers who want to resume their former fitness and recreational activities, others have grown children and would like to restore their body’s former appearance.
The first step in determining whether you are a candidate for a mommy makeover is to schedule a consultation with a surgeon. While not every patient is a candidate for every procedure, most women are good candidates for a combination of procedures that will help restore their bodies and their confidence.
If you are experiencing any or all of the following problems, you might be a candidate for a mommy makeover:
- Your breasts are enlarged, sagging, stretched or otherwise changed after pregnancy and/or breastfeeding.
- Your tummy is drooping over your C-section scar or simply as a result of being stretched during pregnancy.
- Your waistline, hips and thighs are storing stubborn excess fat.
- Your face is showing signs of aging, whether due to stress or the tolls of pregnancy.
If your health is good and your expectations are realistic, there is a good chance you are an excellent mommy makeover candidate.
When to Consider a Mommy Makeover
The timing of a mommy makeover depends on a few different factors, all of which affect recovery time and results. For example, it’s best to wait until your body has “resumed normal” after your most recent pregnancy, meaning you have lost as much weight as you expect to and are no longer breastfeeding.
Another consideration is the age of your children and their activity level. Mothers of very young children will require a lot of help from friends and family during aftercare and recovery, especially in the first few weeks. And while school aged children are more independent, they may have an activity schedule that requires planning and shuttling from place to place. I also have another video with a longer view of the recovery process.

The Tummy Tuck Procedure
Dr. Thomas P. Sterry, a board-certified plastic surgeon in New York, uses before & after photos of an actual patient to describe the tummy tuck procedure and the improvements it provides. When performing this surgery, he placed a horizontal incision low on the abdomen (about 2.5 to 3 inches above the pubic bone) where it may be hidden with underwear and swimsuits. He made a second incision around the navel to release it from the surrounding skin and tissues. In addition to removing lax skin and pockets of excess fat, Dr. Sterry repaired stretched and separated abdominal muscles to flatten the patient’s tummy bulge. Notice the moles on her abdomen were displaced (lower) because the skin was pulled down and the excess removed. The navel was inserted through an opening in its new location on the tightened abdominal skin. Learn more at Tummy Tuck. For additional details about this case, watch Dr. Sterry’s Tummy Tuck Recovery video and see Case 5370 in his online photo gallery.

This patient compares C-section pain to that of a tummy tuck performed by NYC plastic surgeon Dr. Thomas Sterry – who uses special techniques to reduce discomfort after a tummy tuck for the first 3 days. The video also shows before-and-after photos of this patient showing the amazing transformation he achieves. The belly bulge and lax, wrinkled skin are gone. For the most natural-looking results, Dr. Sterry places the incision very low on the abdomen (just above the pubic area) so the resulting scar is hidden beneath most underwear and bathing suits.
In this video, board-certified NYC plastic surgeon Thomas P. Sterry, MD showcases before & after photos of one of his actual tummy tuck patients to describe the various stages of a typical recovery. He repaired this patient’s abdominal muscles and a hernia, which flattened her tummy considerably. He also removed the stretched skin from her belly button down to her pubic area and smoothed the upper abdominal skin down in its place. The incision is not visible in the photos because it is covered by her underwear. To learn more about tummy tuck procedures in New York, visit our website, here: Tummy Tuck.
A tummy tuck patient from New York City describes how she struggled with the decision to have plastic surgery to address the loose skin on her tummy after pregnancy. Her before-and-after photos show the beautiful transformation. Dr. Sterry placed the incision low on the patient’s abdomen so the scar is hidden beneath her underwear. Notice the mole under the left side of her rib cage is moved down close to her belly button after the excess skin is removed during surgery.

Anyone who has lost more than 100 lbs should probably start thinking about a Lower Body Lift instead of a simple tummy tuck operation to contour their bodies and get rid of loose skin issues. Dr. Sterry is a Manhattan plastic surgeon who presents a patient that had a lower body lift. He walks the viewer through the steps of the procedure to help them understand how the operation is performed.
In this video, board certified plastic surgeon Thomas P. Sterry, MD highlights the lower body lift with Fleur de Lis Abdominoplasty for his bariatic patients. Dr. Sterry calls this combination of procedures the “ultimate body lift”. He considers it to be a marathon of a procedures but says if done well, the patient will be very satisfied with their results.
In this video, board-certified plastic surgeon Thomas P. Sterry, MD shares details including before-and-after photos on the very popular male tummy tuck procedure. This NYC patient was frustrated because in spite of losing weight and getting in shape, he was left with excess skin around his midsection. Dr. Sterry tells his patients, “You can tone muscle, but you can’t tone your skin.” You can’t see the incision in these photos because it’s hidden below the patient’s underwear. For men, Dr. Sterry places the incision low on the sides, but higher in the middle to ensure the scar can be covered with clothing.
