This is a 35-year-old woman who requested that I remove her "back fat" with liposuction in our Manhattan, New York, practice. Given that the fatty tissue on the back is so fibrous, I chose to use the Smartlipo laser to help break it up and melt the fat. This makes the actual liposuction of the upper back and flanks much more efficient — and easier to perform. A total of 2,800 cc of fat was removed during the operation, which was performed under local anesthesia in my certified office operating room.

The photos shown here were taken 3 months after the liposuction was performed. Note that we did NOT perform liposuction on her abdomen, just the upper back, lower back, and flanks.
