Breast Case #1202

This is a 28-year-old woman who came in concerned about her small, uneven breasts. It was a tremendous source of insecurity for her — especially as an unmarried woman without children. She told me that she never wanted men to see her breasts because they were so "ugly."

In the world of New York City plastic surgery, this case is what's known as a "Mitzvah" (a good deed). This is one of the nicest and most sincere people I've ever met, and I really wanted to help her. However, there were 2 issues:

1. She really needed a breast lift (mastopexy) at our New York City practice in order to raise her nipples to an aesthetically pleasing position in addition to inserting a breast implant.

2. Performing breast augmentation at the same time as a breast lift is one of the most challenging cases in plastic surgery. The revision rate has been quoted at 15%, and I didn't want to see her go through a phase where she didn't look right. That would have made her even more insecure about her breasts.

We ultimately chose to use to use high-profile gummy bear implants from Sientra®. This means that even if the implant shell ruptures, the silicone polymer inside will hold its shape and not ooze around the inside of the breast pocket. (Incidentally, they come with a lifetime warranty from the company because they just don't seem to break.)

The case came off without any issues, and she is quite satisfied with her "new boobs." In case you were wondering, she now wears a D-cup bra.

These impants are considered to be "form-stable" or "gummy bear" implants and do not leak if ruptured.
