This is a 33-year-old woman who felt cheated by her "fat arms" despite a steady diet and regular exercise program. Her friends, family, and personal trainer all told her that she could "work it off," but after a few years with a flat tummy, slender thighs, and no results on her arms, she decided to come in to meet me for a consultation.

She worked as a seamstress and needed the use of her arms on a daily basis. Therefore, a long recovery time was not acceptable. She also asked for a solution that did not involve a long scar on the upper arm such as an arm lift or brachioplasty would create, but she still wanted tight arms and an athletic look. Some people are completely unreasonable ;-)

We decided to perform Smartlipo liposuction of the upper arms at my New York City practice, and we left the wounds open to allow for drainage. I am convinced that the Smartlipo yields tighter skin and a better result in arm liposuction cases. The decision to leave the small (6 mm) wounds open helps to allow for better drainage and a much faster recovery from the case. I have found that the black and blue marks, swelling, and discomfort in these cases is dramatically reduced by leaving the incisions open to drain. In this case, she was back to work as a seamstress in 5 days but says she could have gone back in 4.

She now wears some of the sleeveless dresses that she used to fit for other women and looks great in them!
