Arm Lift Case #8190

This patient had lost about 100 pounds with bariatric surgery and asked for an arm lift operation in New York City to get rid of her loose skin. As a performer, she was particularly concerned that her arm scar would be noticeable.

An "L" shaped scar was created from the axilla to the elbow using a supportive layer of deep sutures to minimize her scarring. This is the technique that I began using about 10 years ago. I found that the sidways "T" incision sometimes had trouble healing and really didn't contribute anything to the contouring of the arms. Furthermore, while I was taught to using superficial sutures for the closure of this wound, I began using some long-lasting but dissolvable sutures in the deep layer to give support. It seems that the longer we can avoid tension across the skin, the finer the scar is that develops later.

So, although it takes much longer to do the case this way, it seems worth the investment when I get results like this one. The results are shown one year after her arm lift operation.
